The Big 3

Any advice on good gifts for the 3-year-old set? Miss Priss has both a birthday AND Christmas coming up and I'm very short on ideas for gifts.

She really doesn't NEED anything, but there has to be something to open and something for the Santa list. We are at capacity on books and the most popular books lately seem to come from the library anyway. She has a play kitchen that she loves, but there are already enough accessories for a small nation. The new playroom does not have any more floor space for a 'big' gift. I was thinking about a balance bike, but it seems cruel to gift that in December when it can't be used for months.

Further, it seems that most toys are baby toys, for ages 1-2, or for 4 and up. She plays with plenty of things that are choking hazards (hooray for great parenting!), so that's not the issue, but I'm just not sure she would be interested in some of the board games and such. What age does the dress-up obsession start? I was kind of thinking of stalking the post-Halloween sales for some dress-up goodies.

I'm at a loss ....

That's my plan. To hit up the dress-up sales after Halloween and give Charlie a dress-up closet either for Xmas or Bday. The other big gift is a train table this year.

I was actually wondering if she would at all be interested in some cars & a homemade track on a small carpet rug? Lots of great ideas & trying to think outside of the typical "girly, sparkly, pink" gifts. Let me know. I have some ideas that go with this.

It's big and bulky...but the Learning Tower is one of the best purchases we've made so far.

Harper has this box of puzzles that is for 3+ age. She can't really do them yet, but really likes them. There are 2 4-piece puzzles, 2 6-piece puzzles, & 2 9-pieces puzzles. They are all animals. I will have to go look for the brand & name of them (I'll get back to you). I think they are a great toy to have though!

P dresses up every.single.day and it all started around his 3rd bday. I vote for costumes! Best purchase I ever made was 3 costumes for 20 bucks off Amazon. (Batman, Superman, and Robin- easy to take on and off, too.) Let me know if you see any great sales!

Puppets/Puppet theater? US Toy has bunches of puppets for $2 a piece and really cute puppet sets (prince/princess/king/dragon) that are reasonable. Emma got these and a doorway puppet theater from Mimi and Papa for xmas when she was 3 and they were a huge hit. They were lost in the fire so Mimi just replaced her puppet set and added in a menagerie of animals for her bday last month and Evan and Emma have had a blast with them. Miss E is so imaginative I bet she'd love the "stage" of a puppet theater!
